What is an REO Property?
Bank-owned Real Estate, more commonly known as REO (Real Estate Owned), is a class of property owned by a lender, bank, or other financial institution immediately following the unsuccessful sale at a foreclosure auction. After an unsuccessful auction, the bank or financial institution becomes the deeded owner of the home and is typically anxious to dispel the home, limit exposure, and retain the loan balance.
It is common that many of the liens or other expenses troubling the property will be removed to encourage a quick sale. The bank's ideal client becomes a highly-liquid buyer with the fewest contingencies.
